"I never thought plates were big enough." -CF
Plates and Platters
Somewhere along the way, buffets got bigger, as did the portions at restaurants. However, plate size stayed the same throughtout the industry and even handmade round plates followed a typical measure dictated by bat size. Hand pressed plates have a life of their own in the drying process and furthers the individual character of the plate or the set. A platter merely has to leave the confines of the traditional bat size in order to present its new designation. While hand built platters are possible, I prefer to continue throwing where platters are concerned.
Square Plates Sets
These plates are hand pressed porcelain fired to cone 6. The glaze options are the same as the previous product page. Each plate is accompanied by a hand pressed dish with the same leaf motif on the inside. At a size of 9x9, these plates are great for sushi, brunch, garden parties or tapas. They are a great way to add a nontraditional flare to your table setting.
Plates are $15.00 with or without center logo. The matching dish is $5.00. I prefer to start plate orders in sets of two and will add an odd to sets larger than four.
These plates are best suited to hand washing but will be safe in the dishwasher. Porcelain is not recommended for the oven or the microwave.
Platters
Platters are thrown on 12 inch bats with a 3 to 4 inch rim, typically giving it a diameter of 18inches. They are stoneware with the same glaze choices as the previous product page.
Platters can be decorated in a number of ways to match other pottery selections or existing room decor. They will warm in an oven without difficulty for food serive but probably won't fit in your dishwasher or microwave.
Platters start at $100.00 due to difficulty in drying and firing. More elaborate glazing may require an increase in price.
Platter rims can be dished by request to increase the amount of sauces for food service or as a more bowl like vessel for kitchen use or decorative facility.
